I have used EnBase Flo in my recombinant protein expression experiments and I have compared the results to my former system (M9ZB medium). I can easily give you the following statement:
Time is a precious commodity in protein structural and functional research. To obtain enough material for protein purification and crystallization by E. coli cultivations, have had to use large culture volumes and many repeats. These cultivations have often failed to produce adequate product quantity and quality. My proteins are large in size, which makes their production in E. coli a very challenging task. Cultivation, cell harvesting and protein purification activities often take much more time than my real interests: protein structural and functional analysis. This was very frustrating, but now I realize that I was stuck with tradition. Having been introduced to EnBase from BioSilta my research has gained new energy. One cultivation in 100 ml volume provides me more protein in a soluble (correctly folded) format than 2 liters cultivations previously, and I don’t need to repeat these cultivations! Don’t wait for a new tradition, just use EnBase!

While harvesting 2L cultures requires time consuming, multiple centrifugation and resuspension steps, multiple EnBase Flo cultures can be harvested at once. Due to limited shaking and centrifuge capacities, it was impossible to express more than two proteins per day in 2L cultures, while EnBase Flo enables us to express 12 proteins in parallel."
