How do we do it?

BioSilta’s unique EnBase is a cell cultivation kit that produces up to 50 times more bacteria and 10 times more recombinant proteins than traditional laboratory methods. In essence, it does this by controlling the release of nutrients to growing organisms.

The technology used is a time and cost saver for laboratory researchers because it eliminates the problem of overfed bacteria, and oxygen depletion, which too often leads to poor quality and low numbers - and the need to start again.

BioSilta scientists have scaled-down fed-batch technology to the size of a microwell.

The basic technology:

• EnBase has 2 parts: a Gel and Liquid Medium
  
• The Gel – contains a nutrient food source encapsulated in a polymer matrix
  
• The Liquid Medium added by the customer contains a biocatalyst and salts to support growth
  
• The biocatalyst decomposes the polymer matrix, releasing glucose into bite-size portions for the bacteria to consume in a controlled manner
  
• The Gel contains the exact quantity of nutrients required for best bacterial growth
  
• The biocatalyst concentration is precisely defined to ensure the correct rate of glucose release
